The annual April Tools Wooden Boat Challenge is a popular family event on the Sunshine Coast and takes place the last Saturday in April. Our heritage revolves around the sea and one component of that history is boat building. This community celebration features a boat building competition and race. Enter a team, bring the family and enjoy the fun on the last Saturday in April. Come join us! An annual harbinger of spring, the April Tools Wooden Boat Challenge, is a major production of the Pender Harbour Living Heritage Society. Now in its 13th year, this mixture of inventive boatbuilding, high school team antics and kids’ mini-boatbuilding is blended with a variety of community activities. Volunteer opportunities in both the planning and helping on the day

Each year the Pender Harbour Music Society presents a variety of concerts, beginning in August and running through to May or June.

Musical tastes in our community are varied and we try to cater to as many as possible.

We have featured classical musicians like the Lafayette String Quartet, Robert Silverman, and Suzie Leblanc, to name just a few. From the world of jazz, we have proudly presented Pearl Django, Company B Jazz Band, and the Marc Atkinson Trio. We include blues, gospel, a capella vocals, and groups like Joe Trio who don’t fit neatly into any category. We book local talent like Joel Fafard, Celso Machado, and Penny Lang. We also go far afield to bring in people like legendary Celtic folk singer Archie Fisher and world famous Flamenco guitarist Juan Martin and his riveting Flamenco dancers.

The one constant is high quality of performance. And we welcome your suggestions (click here to use our online contact form).

All concerts are held at the School of Music in Madeira Park. Tickets are available on this website (click here) and at Harbour Insurance in Madeira Park and Strait Music in Sechelt.

Members’ interests in wildlife are wide ranging from back yard naturalists to experienced experts. Activities include photography, sailing, fishing, gardening, bird watching, hiking, biking, and many are skilled artists, writers, biologists, teachers, and conservationists. Now in its fifth year, the hiking club boasts nearly 100 members – both full timers and seasonal residents. Hikes are scheduled two months in advance and take place on trails from Egmont to Roberts Creek and all points in between – with the occasional full day hike out of the area for those interested in participating. Hikes start at 8:30am and generally last from 1.5 to 2 hours every Monday and Wednesday. A good level of fitness is required as some of the routes have uneven terrain and some elevation gains. No commitment is required: get on the e-mail list to get a copy of the current hiking schedule and notices about cancelled hikes, changes in routes, etc. or check out the website and then just show up at the designated meeting spot on the morning of the hike. This is a great way to get to know the trails and to meet like-minded, energetic neighbours at the same time.

The Council exists to support the vitality of Pender Harbour and Egmont (or Area A) as excellent places to live, work and play for residents and visitors. The Council provides a structure that allows residents to identify issues of broad community concern and have them effectively addressed. We provide a public forum where concerned citizens can express themselves and be confident their concern will be recorded, researched, prioritized and addressed as directed by the community as a whole and in line with our communities’ common goals. We believe our community’s goals should be set from within our community and can be achieved by volunteer effort, careful planning, cooperation amongst not-for-profit organizations, and prioritization of available government, public and private funding sources. Volunteer opportunities available: such as trails and pathways, transportation, communications and marketing as well as at the Board of Director’s level.
